Lubricant Changes and Filtration
Wind Turbine Generators, by their nature, must keep turning to be profitable. The use of specialized synthetic gear fluids have increased the length of change intervals for main gear boxes, as well as pitch and yaw gear boxes, to three and in some cases four years. However, they are still, at some point, going to reach that interval and require a fluid change. At Mariah Resources we feel one of our most valuable offerings is the Field Service division. Transportation of 25 to 110 gallons of gear fluid from ground level to heights reaching 400 feet is not a small task. Mariah Resources, has engineered service trucks tooled for just this daunting task. Field Service Trucks are manned with three wind turbine maintenance technicians. Large turbines (GE 1.5, Vestas 90, Siemens) can be serviced at the rate of 2 or 3 per day depending on weather conditions.
The Field Service Truck and crew will drain the main gearbox, yaw system
gearboxes, and pitch system gearboxes, and refill with either a customers lubricants or with Mariah Resources provided Lubricants at the customers option. Used lubricant samples will be taken from all components prior to drain and sent through either the customers approved laboratory or at the customers option through Polaris Laboratories by way of Mariah Resources. Field Service Crews can drain and flush hydraulic systems, and at the customer’s request, perform a full greasing while up the tower. All waste product will leave the field as property of Mariah Resources with proper chain of custody paperwork, eliminating the need for customer tracking of waste oil. Field Service work is contracted at a flat rate per tower to be serviced.
In the interest of protecting our customers margins, the same Field
Service Truck can perform full lubricant filtration in lieu of an oil change should the existing analysis prove this possible. Many owners have been looking toward filtration as a mid term possibility for increasing turbine component life and lubricant change intervals. These goals are attainable through the Field Service Division.
Leverage Your Manpower
Either by crane or by hand no one wants to transport new fluid to the top of a tower. The time and effort are too high. Operations personnel have other duties they need to see to. The capitol investment in pumps and evacuation equipment has already been made by Mariah Resources Inc.
